Dear Consul Hillel Newman,
I am writing as a concerned American Jew to protest the threats and intimidation of GushShalom by various parts of the Israeli government, including the Prime Minister, the DefenseMinister, and the Attorney General. .Gush Shalom and its members are guilty only ofupholding their civic responsibility as Israeli citizens to monitor and publicizeviolations ofinternational law by Israeli citizens and institutions, as well as the possibleconsequences ofsuch acts. .Israel is a signatory to the Geneva Conventions among other conventions ofinternational law, and thus, its citizens have every right and obligation to track andannounceviolations of these conventions. .As a Jew who holds Israel to the highest standards ofmorality and justice, I ask you to use your position to demand that the Attorney Generalinvestigate violations of international law and not those who are attempting to monitorthem.
