On the day the International Court in The Hague started itshearing on the Separation Wall, the “Israeli Coalitionagainst the Wall” raised an “Israeli Voice against theWall”.
About 700 activists of Gush Shalom, Ta’ayush, Yesh Gvul,the Women’s Coalition for Peace and others, took part inthe demonstration near thePrime Minsiter’s residence, onlysome 200 meters from the place where a day before a suicidebomber had blown up a bus. “The Wall will not bringsecurity, it will only bring more attacks,” said OrenMedicks, one of ther speakers.
“It is important for us to show to the world that there isa significant part of Israeli public opinion that opposesthis monstrous Wall,” Uri Avnery of Gush Shalom said to thepress.
At the center of the demonstration a “wall” was set up. Atthe height of the event, the demonstrators attacked thewall and destroyed it within seconds.
That morning, a petition against the wall, initiated by theCoalition and signed by almost 1000 Israelis, was publishedin the papers. Also that morning Gush Shalom published anad calling for removal of the wall erected on Palestinianland. It said that a wall would have neen acceptable if ithad been set up on the Green Line and as a temporarymeasure, until peace was achieved.
