The warnings sent by Gush Shalom to Israeli officers regarding thepossibility of war crimes are the most patriotic actions that any group ofIsraeli citizens could take. If such crimes are in fact committed in defense ofIsrael then the long term stain on Israel’s legitimacy and respectability as anation would be great. Any precaution against either the willful or inadvertentcommission of such crimes is the duty of citizens in a democracy. Whatever thecause, some actions are surely beyond the pale in the recognized laws of theinternational community. Thank you.
