The New Mas'ha Camp - 27/07

Today we recieved a message, that the tent will be dismantled within an hour.
Very soon, many of the activists arrived to give support.
While waiting for the army, Riziq Abu-Naser is giving a lecture on the wall.
Activists listening to the lecture.
Another view of the camp's kitchen.
At 16:00 we recieved a message that the contractor is about to blast the rocks around the camp.
Within minutes we flattened the tents, after recieving a promise that we
will be able to return.
The blast.
Nazeeh opens a watermelon. A real celebration.
Tayseer and July working on a laptop.
We can even connect to the internet, using a cellphone card! (Thanks to Nimrod)

The New Mas'ha Camp - 14/07

The new location of the camp is already very close to the village itself.
In a short while, the bulldozers will reach the village.
A look towards the working bulldozers.
On the left, local art of camp dwellers, protesting against the wall.
A look towards the location of the original protest camp,
on the left side of the hill.
This hill is now out of reach.
Preparing new boards with maps, photos etc.
The kitchen of the new camp is located in the wreck of an old car.
An evening of discussions in the camp.

Mas'ha Camp - 25/06

We had to move from the original location - to a new one.
After 60 days in the old camp, The brbed wire,
which is the first obstacle, encircled the camp completely.
Beautiful sunset on the barbed wire that surrounds the hill of the old camp.
It is sad to leave this hill and move to another one.
Nageh, Nazeeh's brother, amongst the construction works -
half way between the old camp (way up the hill at his back)
And the New camp.
The New camp from a far.
The construction of the fence there, are at their beginnings.
The only element that is finished, is the narrow trench.
Another image of the new camp. The trench is seen clearly.
Another view of the camp
A child crossing a make-shift bridge laid across the trench.

Mas'ha Camp - 07/06

The barbed wire, which is the first stage of the wall, is being completed.
we now have to make a considerable detour in order to enter the camp.
It seems that within several days we will need to relocate the camp.
An American peace activist and artist woke up early in the morning,
To draw the scenery.
This sketch, made by the same artist, shows Handallah (A figure representing the Palestinian people).
Handallah is addressing the separation wall, saying: "They also told me to keep you clean"
humour under the shadow of the wall.
Another gathering under the olive tree
Palestinian peace activists conncting to the internet from the camp.

Mas'ha Camp - 21/05

Mas'ha Camp at dawn.
This "obelisk" of nearly 3 meters high, was created by Yoni.
On this hill, which is embedded with many stones,
we sometimes feel an almost compelling need to pile them in various forms.
Maybe this has to do with the Palestinian traditional way of cultivating olive groves -
creating land terraces by piling stones.
Someone wrote on the Obelisk, in Arabic:
"The land speaks Arabic"
Everybody is still asleep.
It is impossible to tell Palestinians from Israelis from Internationals.
for the vast majority of Israelis, the idea of spending a night
on a remote hill with Palestinians - is the most frightening proposition possible.
for nearly 300 Israelis who spent a night, or more, in the protest camp at Mas'ha,
this is an experience that will change their views forever.
As part of normalisation, the Mas'ha camp inhabitants
have created a makeshift volleyball field
Dinner at the camp.
