Israeli soldiers occupying Al Quds University's Medical professions
building in Ramallah have left destruction in their wake,
destroying office equipment as well as looting of valuable equipment.
The worst hit was Al Quds Educational Television which is housed
in the building that was occupied by Israeli soldiers between April 2-21.
After surveying and documenting the damage, Ayman Bardawil,
director Of Al Quds Educational Television described
the damage as overwhelming.
"All the studio and ENG cameras, videos and satellite receivers were looted.
Computers were stolen, bullet holes have punctured tv and computer monitors.
Irreplaceable archival videos and data has been for ever lost."
Wasssim Abdullah the technical director of the Institute
estimated the loss as over $200,000.
Soldiers who took over the building on April 2 littered the building
With hateful graffiti. Among them:
"Death to Arabs", "death to Arafat", "eat drink and destroy".
Skulls and bones were painted all over the building and on one broken
monitor the words "the price of terrorism" was scribbled in Hebrew.
Much of the destroyed equipment was donated by international agencies
And western governments including the US government,
American foundations, European countries and even a
number of American Jewish organizations.
Al Quds Educational Television produced an award
winning children's program in cooperation with the American Sesame
workshop aimed at teaching children of the Middle East
tolerance and mutual respect.
Al Quds University is planning to file suit against the Israeli army
demanding compensation. An appeal for support
to rebuild the television studio has also been launched.
